Nancy Stachel, Principal, Maxfield Magnet Elementary

Nancy Stachel was assigned as the Principal of Maxfield Magnet Elementary in January, 2010, to lead the turnaround effort at the school.  Designated by the Minnesota Department of Education as “persistently low achieving school,” Maxfield Magnet Elementary serves a student population with 98 percent poverty, 95 percent students of color, and less than 25 percent of students proficient on state math and reading assessments.

 Ms. Stachel’s eighteen year career with Saint Paul Public Schools includes district level positions as the Chief of Schools, Deputy Chief Academic Officer, and Executive Director of Elementary Education.  As the Chief of Schools she oversaw the expansion of the Achievement Plus community school model, led partnering work with community-based organizations such as the Greater Twin Cities United Way, supervised support to schools, and facilitated the merger of schools and programs.
